International stakes success for Almanzor
Cambridge Stud shuttle stallion Almanzor sired his third stakes winner when Lassaut romped away with the Listed Prix Nureyev (2000m) at Deauville on Sunday. The three-year-old is prepared by Jean-Clade Rouget, who trained his sire, and the three-time winner is part-owned by Haras d’Etreham, the northern hemisphere home for his sire. Ridden by Cristian Demuro, Lassaut was held up last of the seven runners through the early stages of the race. Switched wide, the colt still had ground to recover inside the final 200m but produced an outstanding turn of…
Te Akau maintains strong pace in Singapore
A changing of the guard in Singapore for Te Akau has proved to be a seamless transition with the trainers’ premiership again having a familiar look about it. When four-time title winner Mark Walker returned home earlier this year to take charge of the operation’s New Zealand stable at Matamata, he passed the baton to expatriate Kiwi trainer Donna Logan. She hit the ground running at the head of Te Akau Singapore and a quartet of winners at Kranji on Sunday evening lifted her season’s tally to 41 winners to…
Lim’s Kosciuszko wins Lion City Cup
Talented sprinter Lim’s Kosciuszko scored back-to-back stakes wins when landing the S$300,000 Lion City Cup (Sing G1) (1200m) at Kranji on Sunday after a thrilling win in the Singapore Derby (1800m) last month. With stablemate and likely race favourite Lim’s Lightning scratched at the start of the feature race, the Trelawney Stud-bred Lim’s Kosciuszko jumped as favourite and the punters were on the money. After pinging the gates from barrier seven, Lim’s Kosciuszko (Wong Chin Chuen) settled nicely just off the tempo in fifth with cover. Upon turning for home,…
Sutherland scores first double
Apprentice jockey Lily Sutherland and Wanganui trainer Kevin Myers are starting to build a formidable partnership. Sutherland recorded her first win as a jockey when piloting the Myers-trained Shockproof to victory at Hawera in April, and on Saturday she rode her first double for the trainer at Riccarton. Kick On was backed into $2.70 favouritism in the Zilco Open Handicap (1400m) and he won accordingly, with Sutherland riding him clear to a 2-1/2 length victory, while three races later she was back in the winner’s stall after guiding stablemate Aljay…

Sick beats leave punters on life support | Punt Drunk
If punters got paid out for stiff beats, every single one of us would have had a fill-up on Saturday. Social media was in crisis mode as the likes of Frumos, Waltz On By and Spacewalk were all morals beaten. For the punters that were brave enough to go again on Sunday, they had something to smile about as Sky Racing’s Paul Joice tipped a $151 winner at the Sunshine Coast. Elsewhere, there was plenty of Aussie representation in a hot Group 1 in France. THE COFFIN A quick scroll…
