Master Jamie lugs 65.5kg to win Rockhampton feature

Master Jamie and Les Tilley combined for a terrific win in Sunday’s Tattersall’s Gold Cup (1600m) at Rockhampton. (Photo: Racing QLD) With 12 rating points more than any other horse in Sunday’s Tattersall’s Gold Cup, the handicapper thought 65.5kg would be enough to bring Master Jamie back to the pack. It wasn’t. The Graeme Green-trained five-year-old was able to lead all of the way to win the Rockhampton feature under Les ‘Bubba’ Tilley, in what was his first start at 1600m. 2022 Tattersall’s Gold Cup Race Replay https://horsebetting.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/20220626ROCR06_V.mp4 The son…

Neasham: Mo’unga unrecognisable

Leading trainer Annabel Neasham says she almost didn’t recognise star Mo’unga (NZ) (Savabeel) given how much he has matured in the spelling paddock. The dual Group One winner returned to her New South Wales stable this week and she couldn’t be happier with the rising five-year-old. “He just arrived back in the stable. You nearly wouldn’t recognise him,” Neasham said. “He has improved physically an enormous amount. He’s really beefed up. “He is coming into his five-year-old season now. Very excited about him.” Neasham said Mo’unga will likely return in…

Good ‘old’ Flying Pie forever!

Flying Pie, a giveaway greyhound, successfully went ‘panning for gold’ in today’s Mark Hughes Foundation The Prospector heats (425m) at Bendigo.  And now a $15,000 ‘nugget’ awaits him in the final next Friday.  Trained at Pakenham by ‘one-eyed’ Collingwood supporter Brad Sands (main pic), Flying Pie ($2.70F) clocked a flying 23.66sec (Best) win in heat one. It was his fifth win from 11 starts.  Flying Pie – aka “Daicos” – was to ‘uphold the Magpies name’ with a brilliant frontrunning effort. Not dissimilar to AFL club Collingwood, which held on by…

By Joshua Smith, Harness News Desk Blair Wilmott was on cloud nine at Addington Raceway on Sunday after he guided Happy Place to victory in the fifth heat of the New Zealand Amateur Drivers Championship, clinching the series in the process. Earlier in the day Wilmott won Heat 4 of the series with The Hornett, which added to his opening win of the competition at Cambridge Raceway on Thursday with Ticking Over. Wilmott was rapt to bookend the competition and gave a salute as he secured the series behind Happy…

Amore Vita dominant in Redcliffe Oaks

by Adam Hamilton Yet another easy feature race win for former Kiwi filly Amore Vita headlined a stellar Redcliffe Cup meeting last night. The Nathan Purdon-trained filly had a new driver with NSW young gun Cam Hart “subbing-in” for Chris Alford and it was a cosy gig with Amore Vita using barrier one to lead, dictate terms and win as she liked in the Group 3 Redcliffe Oaks. It took Amore Vita’s record to 16 starts for 11 wins, four placings and over $240,000 in earnings. Her main target up…

Frankie The Fox rewards trainer’s faith with Riccarton victory

While it may have taken two years for enigmatic galloper Frankie The Fox (NZ) (Ego) to make a return to the winner’s enclosure at Riccarton, trainer Mike McCann never lost faith in his charge. A winner on debut as a three-year-old on his home track at Riccarton, the now six-year-old son of Ego had proved to be a consistent performer for McCann in his early days, winning five of his first 17 starts before hitting a drought that saw him go winless since taking out a rating 85 1400m event…

She’s A Maneater all class in fresh-up victory

Wet track specialist She’s A Maneater (NZ) (Reliable Man) showed her class on a testing winter surface when she produced a powerful performance to win fresh-up over 1200m at Tauranga on Saturday. Trainer Peter Lock rolled the dice on starting the five-year-old daughter of Reliable Man over the sprint journey as she had never won under a distance of 1600m in her career to date. With the Heavy10 rated surface proving a tough ask for many runners on the day, She’s A Maneater and apprentice Maria Sanson made light work…

Rose again on Melbourne Cup path

She was one of the feelgood stories of last spring, and Warrnambool-based trainer Symon Wilde hopes to have Tralee Rose (NZ) (Tavistock) return to the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) this year. The five-year-old mare hasn’t been seen since the 2021 Cup, when she finished ninth after being galloped on during the run but has come through the injury in great shape. “She’s come back really well we couldn’t be happier with her,” Wilde said. “She’s fully recovered from all of her niggles including getting galloped on in the Melbourne Cup,…

Juan Diva caps momentous season for Taylor family

A stirring victory by Juan Diva (Snitzel) in the Gr.3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday provided Trelawney Stud’s Taylor family with a remarkable tenth stakes win as owners for the season. Three of those wins have come in Australia with royally bred mare Zayydani (NZ) (Savabeel) contributing twice with her wins in the Gr.2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) and Listed Ballarat Cup (2000m) whilst their seven New Zealand black-type victories were shared between Pareanui Bay (NZ) (Lonhro) (2), Cheaperthandivorce (NZ) (Savabeel) (2) and the recently retired Two…
