McDonald brings up 100th metropolitan win for 2021/22

James McDonald has had a season to remember in the saddle. (Photo: Darryl Sherer) Champion jockey James McDonald has notched up his 100th metropolitan win for the 2021/22 racing season, a milestone he has now reached in four consecutive years. The Sydney-based jockey steered Chris Waller’s filly Pretty Wild to victory at Warwick Farm on Wednesday in the opening race, which was only fitting given the partnership McDonald and Waller have built of late. Already this season, McDonald has won almost AU$35 million in prizemoney for connections, partly thanks to…

Refined is ‘all style’ in WA Oaks

Victorian-owned rising star Refined proved far too ‘polished’ for her rivals in the $40,000 to-the-winner Group 2 WA Oaks (520m) at Cannington in Perth on the weekend. Refined was sent West to contest the series as her Lysterfield South breeder Harry Manolitsis recuperates from ankle and foot surgery. She is owned by Manolitsis’ wife, Adean. Currently under the caretaker trainership of “Team Shinners” (Krystal and Steve), Refined ($2.60F) led from go to whoa and saluted by a massive seven lengths in 29.92sec. It was her third win from only four starts. It was…
