The NZTR (New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing) Board has committed to an exciting and innovative growth plan. Heading the announcement is a more than $7 million stakes increase which will result in a strategic injection of stakes across 20 of New Zealand’s best performing racedays. This targets significant Group and Listed races across Iconic and Premier meetings. NZTR Chairman Cameron George said the Board’s aim is to provide opportunities to increase revenue, delivering bigger racing events on our best performing days. “These are our high-profile events which attract crowds and significant…

An exciting clash between Traralgon 500m track record holder Black Sail and the in-form Rear View Mirror in a Mixed 4/5 460m race is the highlight of tonight’s meeting at Warragul. Consistent chasers duel in a couple of Warragul to Sandown Park Grade 5 460m heats with Jet Like Rico v Dunwerkin followed by Fernando Dusty v Indiana Phones. Thomas to hit Sweet spot in Brisbane Cup
Sweet Thomas is a leading chance in the Brisbane Cup this Saturday. (Photo: Steve Hart) Matthew Smith is of the belief that his 10-year-old Sweet Thomas is going even better than last year as he prepares for another Brisbane Cup (3200m) berth. Having finished third in the two-mile event at Eagle Farm 12 months ago, Smith’s dour stayer looks in fine fettle following a desperately unlucky second in the Premier’s Cup (2400m) a fortnight ago. The son of Dylan Thomas rarely puts the effort in at distances less than 3200m,…
Kiss Sum ‘very hard to beat’ in Gunsynd Classic
Kiss Sum has been well supported in early markets for Saturday’s Gunsynd Classic (1600m) at Eagle Farm. (Photo: Steve Hart) While the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) was Kiss Sum’s target, trainer Tracey Bartley has had to settle for Plan B with his promising three-year-old. After an unlucky runner-up performance in the Fred Best Classic (1400m) last start – a race which offers ballot exemption into the Stradbroke – Bartley and Kiss Sum’s connections had to hope that 13 horses above them in the order of entry for the Stradbroke wouldn’t accept…

The six-year-old will retire as a Group One winner over a mile, multiple stakes winner on both sides of the Tasman and dual New Zealand Stayer of the Year with over $2.7 million in stakes earnings. However, trainer Andrew Forsman thinks he’s a good chance of adding one last feature win to his already impressive resume, following…
