GRV Deputy Chair steps down

Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) Chair Peita Duncan has today announced that GRV Deputy Chair, Emmett Dunne has decided to step down from the GRV Board after almost six years in the position. Emmett was appointed to the Board in September 2016 and has served as Deputy Chair since 2021. “I extend my sincere thanks to everyone at GRV and within the broader industry for their support.   I recognise and commend everyone in the greyhound community for what they have achieved throughout my association with them, especially during the difficulties of…

Another Stonewall Stud spending spree

The NZB weanling sales have just wrapped up at Karaka in Auckland and again it was Stonewall Stud to the fore. More than 100 weanlings were up for sale with Stonewall’s Steve Stockman spending big money as he did at the Yearling Sales earlier in the year. Stonewall bought eight lots, totalling $271,000 including the top lot, a Captain Crunch – Princess Arts filly for $55,000 (pictured above). They also bought another Captain Crunch colt for $46,000. Also busy at the sales were the Australians, especially Tumby Park from…

Sydney test for ageing Master

If Victorian gelding Ballet Master (NZ) (Stravinsky) acquits himself well at Randwick, he will be transferred to a new trainer, and he will do so with the blessing of his current conditioner Chris Hyland.  Ballet Master enjoys rain-affected tracks and Hyland figures he is more chance of striking them consistently in Sydney this winter than he is in Melbourne.  But given the difficulty of campaigning a horse interstate while he is ensconced at Cranbourne, Hyland believes the best solution is to hand him over to a Sydney-based trainer.  As such, he has hatched…

Entriviere’s wide draw not the worst outcome – Walker

Mark Walker is unconcerned about Entriviere’s (NZ) (Tavistock) wide barrier draw for Saturday’s Gr.1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm. The Matamata trainer will be trackside for the weight-for-age sprint that has seen Gr.1 Railway Stakes (1200m) winner Entriviere draw barrier 17. The five-year-old mare scorched home for third in the Gr.1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) a fortnight ago, closing in the quickest last 400m and 200m sectionals after getting a long way back. “She just couldn’t go with them at all early in that rough ground but once finally…

Bambry stars finally underway

Trainer Chrissy Bambry isn’t expecting any early fireworks from her Group One performers Spring Tide (NZ) (Darci Brahma) and Deerfield (NZ) (Falkirk) when they belatedly open their campaigns at Trentham on Saturday. The Foxton horsewoman has been frustrated by a lack of suitable races to kick off the duo, who will go head-to-head in the Southey Sayer Chartered Accountants Handicap (1400m). “I would have liked to have got them back a bit sooner, but the programming didn’t favour any open 1200m races, there hasn’t been one for seven weeks so…

Carston holds strong hand at Wingatui

Trainer Andrew Carston is hoping to get a gauge on Group Two performer Milford Sound (NZ) (Ocean Park) when he lines-up in the Otago Daily Times (2200m) at Wingatui on Friday. The son of Ocean Park had a rewarding three-year-old season, placing in the Listed Southland Guineas (1600m), Gr.3 Manawatu Classic (2000m), and Gr.2 Championship Stakes (2100m). He failed to fire as a four-year-old in the spring, finishing towards the tail of the field in each of his three stats, and while he has been unplaced in his two starts…
