Daily Mail: ‘Rupee’ is a gilt-edged sprint ‘diamond’

Aston Rupee is arguably Australia’s No. 1 sprinter – a greyhound who has added ‘sparkle’ to the sport. He’s a bona fide ‘speed star’ if you’ll excuse the pun. However, the dual G3 Speed Star winner, who has won 4 of his past 7, will need to display all of his polish at Sandown today. Nikoli Bale (10 from 30 – 3 of past 4) v Aston Rupee (13 from 25 – 4 from 9 Trk/Dst) v Lakeview Walter (9 from 21 – 5 from 8 Trk/Dst) will be a…

Club News : Methven – Sept 9

Owners intending to watch their horse at Methven on Sunday will need to register either with secretary Richard Bromley 021-888-900 or e-mail manager@methventrottingclub.co.nz All entry will be recorded manually or with the Covid app. We would ask owners to enjoy their race but leave the course within a reasonable amount of time so the club does not exceed the allowed amount of 100 people in the owners’ bubble. Limited food will be available in the owners’ bubble but owners would be wise to perhaps bring a little food or drink…

Makybe Diva homecoming for Tofane

Tofane (NZ) (Ocean Park) will make a welcome return to her home track of Flemington on Saturday when she contests the Gr.1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m). The daughter of Ocean Park ran third first-up in the Gr.1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last month, and trainer Michael Moroney believes she will appreciate the roomier track at Flemington. “I thought she struggled a bit around that last corner (at Caulfield),” Moroney told SENTrack. “Just the way the race was run, they started to really sprint around that corner. She got off…

Innes anxious for return to racing

Auckland’s extended lockdown has proved especially frustrating for leading jockey Leith Innes, who can look but can’t touch with nearly everything he wants to participate in. Innes is one of several jockeys in the Auckland region robbed of riding while the province is in Alert Level 4 COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. “You’d like to be racing but it’s not looking good any time soon,” Innes said. “I’ve been working at the farm, doing trackwork. I’ve tried to get an exemption to ride at the races but I’ve just been bounced back…

Bublitz enjoying the ride

By Joshua Smith, Harness News Desk Andrew Bublitz will line-up a pair of runners at Cambridge Raceway on Thursday and he is hoping they can improve on their last start placings at the Waikato track last week. Victor Bravo scored his first placing at his fourth start last Friday. The gelding did it tough sitting outside eventual winner Doctor Steve, and Bublitz said he thrives in a truly run races. “It was a good, tough run, and the race was run to suit,” Bublitz said. “He is not a sit…

And punters could have to wait another month to find out, a revelation that could enormously impact the market for the great race. The Cup is two months today and…

150 starts – why, what an achievement!

Not a lot people get to celebrate their greyhound contesting 150 starts. However, last Monday at Cranbourne, Why Not Kez (Fernando Bale x Why Not Bev) contested start number 150 over the 311m short course for owner, Gail Carter, and her son, Devon Meadows-based trainer, Leigh Carter (pictured with Why Not Kez above). And, at five and half years of age, and sporting the green number six rug in her sesquicentennial race, Why Not Kez came out all guns blazing and speared straight to the early lead. Despite surrendering front…
