Co-trainer Trent Edmonds has faith in Peppi La Few ahead of Saturday’s meeting at Doomben. (AAP) Trent Edmonds will be hoping he made the right decision in scratching Peppi La Few from Eagle Farm on Wednesday in preference for Saturday’s Class 6 Plate at Doomben, saying that his gelding is “busting” to win a race this campaign. After finishing second in his part three starts, the six-year-old looked to have the midweek race at his mercy, with online bookmakers drawing a line while he was an odds-on favourite in the…

Aston Titan a Healesville Cup ‘goliath’?
Champion Rowsley-based trainer Anthony Azzopardi is hoping Aston Titan (pictured) proves a Group 2 SEN Track Healesville Cup (350m) ‘colossus’ on Sunday. Azzopardi is chasing his second Healesville Cup in three years, having won with Myrniong And All in 2019. In fact, Aston Titan is his seventh finalist in the past five years. Last year, he had Aston Pilsner (3rd) – Aston Titan’s older half-brother – and Short Pork (4th); 2018 Raw Ability (7th); and 2017 Ando’s Mac (4th) and Lucky Chap (8th). Night ‘N’ Vegas joins Stokes barn
Promising four-year-old Night ‘N’ Vegas will continue her racing career in Australia after her recent purchase by Australia-based syndicator, OTI Racing. The daughter of Contributer was formerly trained in New Zealand by Cambridge conditioners Craig and Shaun Phelan for whom she had three starts for a win and two placings. Her last start victory over 1550m on the Cambridge Synthetic caught the eye of local bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo who negotiated her subsequent sale. She has joined Phillip Stokes’ Pakenham stable.
Explosive Jack commences Cup campaign
Triple Derby winner Explosive Jack will commence his preparation towards the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) in November when he contests the Gr.1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday. While undefeated over the distance, his sole victory over 1600m came in maiden company when the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained gelding was on debut last year, and they don’t expect him to feature in the finish this weekend. “His first start at Swan Hill was the one and only time he has raced over a mile,” Maher told RSN927.…
Bulldogs & Tonk are ‘top dogs’?
Bulldogs’ supporters will be ‘drooling’ over this AFL/Greys offer from TAB. The betting giant’s cross-sports proposition is $6.00 for the ‘Doggies’ to lose by 15pts or less – or even win – against the Power in Preliminary Final 2 and ‘ultimate professional’ Tiggerlong Tonk to win the G2 SEN Track Healesville Cup final (350m). Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs met in Round 23, with victory going to the ‘Croweaters’ by 2pts. And Port Adelaide went straight into a preliminary final courtesy of dishing out a 43pt hiding to Geelong…
Demons & Ruby are ‘gems’!
TAB has created a ‘sparkling’ AFL/Greys offer that should have Melbourne fans hearts beating true. The betting behemoth has put up $3.50 for the Demons to defeat the Cats on Friday night and distance queen Mepunga Ruby to reign supreme at The Meadows on Saturday night. The Dees clawed back a third quarter 44pt deficit to upset the Cats with a last-kick win in Round 23 and claim the ‘minor premiership’. And they booked a spot in Preliminary Final 1 with a 33pt win over the Brisbane Lions in the…
Daily Mail: Can ‘Rocket’ sink ‘Sub’?
Can a ‘Rocket’ sink a ‘Sub’? Or will an ‘Angel’ be in seventh heaven? That’s the conundrum for punters as three provincial stars contest a Hugh Emmerson Memorial heat – Race 5, 8.28pm – at Geelong tonight. The Watchdog’s Must-Watch race between Rocket Boy (29 from 56 – 3 of past 4) v Carry On Angel (17 from 56 – 5 of past 8) v Russian Sub (11 from 43) is a real poser! The expert form analyst favours Rocket Boy, who is 5 from 7 Box 3. However, Carry…
Grass making name with staying mare
Kylie Grass is relishing the opportunity to train consistent staying mare Barbara and is making every post a winner. The Pukekohe horsewoman, who has made her name predominantly as a pre-trainer, has had the daughter of He’s Remarkable in a caretaker capacity since fellow trainer Nigel Tiley ventured to Queensland in June for an extended winter break. In that time, Barbara has had four runs for Grass, who does much of her work on Karioitahi Beach, winning on two occasions and finishing runner-up twice. The six-year-old mare will contest Saturday’s…
