Haunui Farm shuttle stallion Belardo recorded a sixth southern hemisphere-bred winner on Sunday when his two-year-old daughter Chitabe won the 2YO Maiden Plate (1600m) at Gosford. Prepared by David Payne, Chitabe defeated stablemate Caboteur by a long neck to win at her fourth start. Chitabe is the second and final foal out of the Group Two performer The Fire Inside, who was trained by Michael Moroney and Chad Ormsby. Belardo returns to Haunui Farm this year, where he will stand for a fee of $10,000+GST.

Golden Eagle ambitions for I’m Thunderstruck
OTI Racing’s Terry Henderson is setting his sights on some rich Sydney spoils with promising three-year-old I’m Thunderstruck. The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr-trained gelding has won three of his five careers starts, including his last start over 1400m at Flemington earlier this month. “It’s early days yet, but he was very impressive last week and hopefully he can follow that up again next weekend at Moonee Valley,” Henderson told Racing.com. “He is an unfurnished horse that still does a lot wrong in his races, but he is chock …
Beauden gearing up for Melbourne Campaign
Class Waikato galloper Beauden is being set some lofty Melbourne targets this spring. The multiple stakes winner appeared in public for the first time this preparation for an exhibition gallop between races at Te Rapa last Saturday, a gallop which left his trainers Graeme and Debbie Rogerson very satisfied. “He galloped well within himself, but he ran home a little bit quicker than they ran the open mile in,” Graeme Rogerson said. “He’s going enormous. We’ll let him get ready, and hopefully we end up in the Caulfield and Melbourne…
Lock flying high with return of stable star
Most people need an incentive to get out of bed on a cold winter’s morning, and for Te Aroha trainer Peter Lock it has been the return of his star galloper Hiflyer (NZ) (Tavistock). The Group One performer hasn’t been sighted on raceday since 2019 after sustaining a tendon injury, and Lock has taken a long and cautious approach with his return. “He banged a tendon and we scanned it, and it needed a three-month break,” Lock said. “It wasn’t serious, but we gave him six months and we put…
Dexter gets seven…again
Dexter Dunn’s starred at the Meadowlands, with his fourth haul of seven race wins on the one night. On Friday night the 31-year-old Kiwi driver took out more than half the 13-race programme. It’s the third time he has won seven races on the same card at the Big M. He also won seven races at Forbury Park in May 2015. “I knew I had some chances,” Dunn told the US Trotting Association, “They just worked out and got nice trips. I just think I had the right stock on…
Pay Me Visa continues feelgood story
By Jonny Turner It’s not just his 16 wins that makes Pay Me Visa an exceptional horse. The Andrew Stuart trained veteran continued his remarkable career and notched his sweet sixteenth victory when bursting home from three deep on the pegs at Addington on Sunday. Far from a typical racehorse, Pay Me Visa is also a family pet and arguably New Zealand’s most profitable galloping pacemaker. And because of that, he wasn’t exactly the spearhead of Stuart’s team on Sunday. “I only took him and Martin John in as a…
Daily Mail: Hey True Bluey
Following a few frenetic days of racing – highlighted by the G1 Maturity Classic, G3 Fireball and Victorian Straight Track Championship heats – the ‘volume’ gets ‘turned down’ a little. But you’ll still ‘hear’ plenty of enticing action today – particularly at Shepparton featuring Fernando Bluey (G1 Australian Cup runner-up). Fernando Bluey (19 from 37 – 7 from 7 Box 1) v Oriental Amber (21 from 43 – 4 from 5 Trk/Dst) has all the hallmarks of a ‘need for speed’ battle in a FFA (385m). Runner-up to Tiggerlong Tonk…
Butt stars again in Queensland
Anthony Butt capped his stellar Queensland Carnival with a feature double. It came in a tumultuous week where Butt and his fiancé Sonya Smith mutually agreed to end their role as private trainers for leviathan owner Emilio Rosati. Butt has been the absolute standout driver of the Carnival and, although a brilliant Copy That drive didn’t get him the Blacks A Fake, he finished with Group 1 wins aboard Tough Monarch (Queensland Trotters’ Cup) and American Dealer (Queensland Derby). Both were typically bold, confident and aggressive Butt drives. He made…
