Form expert The Watchdog has gone on a ‘Paua’ trip – if you’ll excuse the pun. He’s tipping a crack sprinter will prove too powerful at Ballarat. And the talented chaser has plenty of power and passion, having finished second in a G3 Healesville Cup and jointly holding Warragul’s 400m track record (22.07sec). Could all of this add up to ‘power with glory’ for punters? Find out by clicking on today’s ‘Daily Mail’.

New racing and sports radio station to hit airwaves
Plans for a new racing and sports station have been announced. The Australian-based Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) has acquired 29 TAB NZ AM/FM radio licences and plans to become “New Zealand’s new home of sport and racing”. In April last year Trackside was taken off air due to the impact of COVID-19, with the TAB saying the decision would be reviewed when racing in New Zealand resumed. Radio Sport also closed in March last year. SENZ will establish radio studios in Auckland and Wellington and will produce local sports content…
LGemma Thornley reflects on three win weekend
“Pretty much perfect” is the way Gemma Thornley sums up a golden few days on the West Coast. The Canterbury-based junior driver had what commentator Matt Cross called a “field day on the circuit” with three wins and two seconds at Westport last Friday and Reefton on Sunday. That took her season’s tally to 7 wins from 56 drives. At Westport her first win came with the very promising Swedish Franco. “And it was my first win wearing the Teal Pants too,” she said, referring to the Teal Pants campaign…
Needle And Thread hoping Oaks rivals get the stitch
Stephen Autridge and Kris Shailer head into Saturday’s Gr.1 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai New Zealand Oaks (2400m) confident in the staying ability of their Group Two-winning filly Needle And Thread. The daughter of Makfi was beaten a whisker in the Gr.3 Sunline Vase (2100m) last start by high-class filly Amarelinha, who dug deep to prevail on a Slow8 track probably not to her liking. While the ground will be much better on Saturday at Trentham, with the track rated a Dead5 and a fine forecast, Needle And Thread (barrier 4)…
Search broadened for nominations for TAB Board
Racing Minister Grant Robertson is expanding the search for nominations for the TAB NZ Board. “The process to date has yielded some good candidates, but the selection panel has recommended that I broaden the search, and I agree,” Robertson said. “This is a significant decision for the future of racing in this country and I am determined to get it right. While this does mean there will be a delay, I have confidence in the interim Board, and that we will find the best people to guide the future of…
