Queensland Oaks possible for Charms Star

A Queensland campaign could be on the cards for Charms Star (NZ) (Per Incanto) after her runner-up effort in the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) at Trentham on Saturday. The Per Incanto filly finished a length in arrears of race victor Amarelinha and trainer Lisa Latta was pleased with the result. “She had every chance and it was a great run,” Latta said. “We set her for the race and we were rapt to get that Group One black-type with her. “She has come through Saturday pretty well. She is…

Aussie News : March 22

By Adam Hamilton  Anthony Butt can’t wait to get emerging superstar Wolf Stride to the spelling paddock. As fantastic as this campaign has been, Butt thinks he’ll be even better after a spell. But there is one last target, the $100,000 Group Riverina Championship at Wagga on April 4. It’s a race made easier by the fact Lochinvar Art is having a break and recovering from his hoof issues. “He’d be spelling now if Lochinvar Art was right and going to Wagga, but it was too good an opportunity with…

Why not, Bazzar?

The first thing you need to know about Why Not Bazzar is how to pronounce it. It’s not ‘Bazaar’ – it’s ‘Bazza’. The dog is named after a mate of trainers Greg and Gail Carter of Devon Meadows, who happens to be 328 game AFL/VFL veteran and 1981 Brownlow winner, Barry Round. The second thing, and probably the most unique, is that Bazza has recently clocked up 103 races, at the same track, over the same distance. Cranbourne, 311 metres; and familiarity hasn’t bred contempt, rather comfort. Bazza’s record shows…
