Magic Millions 2yo Classic Betting Preview
Saturday’s $2M Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic is one of the richest and sought after races on the Queensland racing calendar. A full field of 21 runners has been assembled, with 16 starters and five emergencies. Run over 1200m, the speed will be solid with Shaqeuro and You’ll Be Mist the two likely leaders. Race favourites, She’s All Class and Swift Witness will appreciate the tempo in the race.
Bet on the 2021 Magic Millions 2YO Classic
1 – Alpine Edge (9)
Trent & Toby Edmonds saddle up undefeated colt, Alpine Edge in what will be his toughest test to date. On debut, the colt led the field and held them out stylishly, before being ridden colder at his most recent start and finishing over the top. He looks a nice robust colt who should appreciate the pressure.
2 – Finance Tycoon (21)
Finance Tycoon is building a nice record, winning two from three to date, including a win just seven days ago in the Aquis Gold Nugget. That win came a month between runs, so he can only improve in this. The outside alley makes it hard to see him winning, but he might be the best colt in the race going forward.
3 – Readily Availabull (7)
Bull Point colt, Readily Availabull has been targeted at this race since he won the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat. He was very impressive that day, and gets a nice barrier here under Michael Dee. Could be the forgotten horse at $26.
4 – Shaquero (1)
Chris Waller’s Shaquero was the early favourite for this race after winning the Breeder’s Plate in style at Sydney on debut. Drawn barrier 1 under Hugh Bowman will be perfect, given his go-forward racing pattern. He does look better suited at 1000m, and the pressure he is likely to get served up could be too much for him over the six furlongs.
5 – Ghostwriter (12)
Was well backed on debut and got the job done at Doomben nicely, but has since been plain in New South Wales. He won’t find this any easier.
6 – Baby Wong (6)
Baby Wong is still a maiden after four starts, but he’s never finished further back than fourth and has been racing in Listed and Group events. He was a big improver last start when second over the 1200m, and has trialled nicely behind Fake Love at this track leading up to this. He’ll land in a nice spot from the gate under Nash Rawiller, and will be hitting the line very strongly late.
7 – Mishani Scandal (17)
Won the first two-year-old race of the season at Toowoomba on debut, but hasn’t really fired a shot since then. Drawn poorly which doesn’t help his chances one bit.
8 – Rambeau (10)
A maiden after three starts, but has placed behind Readily Availabull on debut. Not up to the rest of these.
9 – Fake Love (20)
She’s been the horse that Glen Boss has spruiked as his best chance at winning this race, but barrier 20 does not help her chances. She was a good winner on debut at Caulfield, then was a bit green down the straight at Flemington before coming to Brisbane where she was all but home until Sweet Dolly unleashed on her. One of the main chances, just has to overcome the bad gate.
10 – Mura Mura (8)
Peter & Paul Snowden have had plenty of joy in this race over the years, and Mura Mura could be the one to give them some more cheer. The daughter of Not A Single Doubt is yet to win a race, but her tractable racing style has seen her very competitive in all four starts. She’ll push on from the gate, will have herself in the race and will keep kicking until the post.
11 – She’s All Class (18)
Chris Waller’s filly lived up to her name at Wyong in the Magic Millions race there three wees ago, blowing her rivals away by 4.5L. James McDonald retains the ride which is a great move, given he’ll have to navigate her path from gate 18. If she has improved, which we assume she will have, this will be her race to lose with even luck.
12 – Swift Witness (11)
It took a while to see a two-year-old this season come out and smash the clock, but this girl did exactly that when winning the Gold Pearl on Saturday, running a second quicker than the colts. She came off a third to She’s All Class at Wyong, but did have little luck that day. Up to 1200m should suit, and she has drawn really well in barrier 11. Might be the one.
13 – You’ll Be Mist (14)
Darryl Hansen knows what it takes to win this race and he certainly has You’ll Be Mist in the right vein of form to win. She has certainly been racing in weaker races than some of these, but winning form is good form and she’ll make her luck up on the speed. Jim Byrne goes aboard which is a plus, as she’ll need a strong rider so she can see out the 1200m.
14 – Miss Hipstar (19)
She won her first two races for trainer Kelly Schweida before being given a pretty poor ride on Saturday when third to Swift Witness. She’s drawn wide here, so we expect to see her go forward, which could put an end to her chances.
15 – Queen Of Wizardry (15)
Annabel Neasham saddles up impressive debut winner, Queen of Wizardy. Steph Thornton stays aboard which is a plus, and the barrier isn’t actually the worst for her. In her only win at her only start, she came from near last, looped the field and won impressively, so she’ll be able to attempt to repeat the same thing over the top of the leaders. Could be one for the multiples.
16 – Princess Bojack (5)
Won her maiden nicely in an all the way win at Eagle Farm, but has been plain ever since. Can’t have her here.
Emergencies Listed Below
17EM1 – Ranch Hand (3)
Was a brilliant winner on debut at Warwick Farm, and then failed as a $1.40 favourite at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago. He can improve if he gets a start.
18EM2 – Ruby Kisses (4)
A touch unlucky behind She’s All Class two back, then was no match for the talented Four Moves Ahead. Could run well if she gains a start.
19EM3 – Mishani Enchanted (16)
Fourth to Swift Witness last weekend reads well. Did win at Ipswich last campaign, but nowhere near up to these.
20EM4 – Win Burn (13)
Only had the two starts and ran second on both occasions behind horses who are both rough chances in this. Unlikely to get a start.
21EM5 – Glorious Ruby (2)
She was strong late behind Swift Witness on debut, but her trial prior was nothing spectacular. Can’t have in this.
