‘Tonk’ v ‘Tommy’ in Hobart Thousand
Young Mount Wallace trainer Correy Grenfell, 26, is hoping champion sprinter Tiggerlong Tonk continues his snowballing run of success in the $75,000 to-the-winner Group 1 Hobart Thousand (461m) on Thursday night. Grenfell won last month’s G3 Shootout (515m) at Sandown with Tiggerlong Tonk in a new race record (29.03sec) prior to him finishing fourth to Hard Style Rico in the G1 Melbourne Cup (515m), also at Sandown. And last Saturday night, he snared a $47,000 first prize courtesy of Yozo Bale in the G2 Ballarat Cup (450m). Dubbed the “ultimate…
Vale Neil Maurer
The greyhound racing world has lost one of its most respected participants in Neil Maurer, who has passed away after a long battle with cancer aged 82. Neil enjoyed enormous success as a breeder and trainer, with his most talented greyhounds including Adrenalize, Adrenalin Burst, Adrenalin Storm and Dazzling Dinney. Based in the Ballarat suburb of Lal Lal, Neil was also a highly respected canine chiropractor, who ran his hands over dogs of the calibre of World Title, Kantarn Bale and Destini Fireball to name just a few. Neil’s daughters…
Big Fish Little Fish – Alexandra Park Dec 18
Big Fish Little Fish hosts Craig Thompson and Michael Guerin cast their eye over Friday night’s meeting at Alexandra Park.
Race tempo key to Christianshavtime’s chances
By Michael Guerin Christianshavtime may have a good horse’s motor but it’s his lack of gate speed that might make him vulnerable at Alexandra Park tonight. And that’s why co-trainer Logan Hollis can’t declare him the one to beat in the $17,500 Bell Scaffolding Pace. Christianshavtime probably shouldn’t even be in the reckoning for favouritism for the main mobile pace tonight, being just a four-win horse giving away 30 rating points to Inter Dominion and Auckland Cup placegetters like Mach Shard and Triple Eight. But the combination of those horses…
Draw to help Smokin Bandar
By Jonny Turner Following out a mobile flyer has trainer-driver Craig Ferguson hopeful Smokin Bandar can put his feet in the right spots at Addington on Friday. The five-year-old comes into race 5 following his eye-catching run for third after what looked to be race-ending gallop at the same track last week. A veteran of just eight starts, inexperience cost the grey trotter when he wanted to go too fast when the mobile gate left. “He just got a bit keen up on the gate,” Ferguson said. “It was only…
Former Kiwi goes for 8 in a row
Two of Western Australia’s most exciting pacers To Fast To Serious and Patronus Star lock horns in the highlight of a stellar Gloucester Park meeting tonight (Friday). To Fast To Serious drops back in grade from a luckless WA Pacing Cup run and is favourite from gate five, while Patronus Star is first-up from a spell for Team Bond from barrier seven. Patronus Star, unbeaten in seven Aussie starts, is tuning-up for the major 4YO races, headed by the Golden Nugget, a Gloucester Park through January/February. Team Bond also holds…
