By Joshua Smith, Harness News Desk It’s been more than a decade since Jo Herbert saluted the judge, but her winning drive behind Blue Chip Delight at Motukarara Raceway on Sunday showed she hasn’t lost any of her talent. Blue Chip Delight made a solid start to sit midfield before Herbert asked him to improve three-wide down the back straight to sit outside leader Eastwood Isabella. They hit the lead at the top of the straight and didn’t relinquish their advantage, holding out the fast-finishing The Kaik to win by…

Golden Sixty continues march to LONGINES Hong Kong Mile
New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale graduate Golden Sixty (Medaglia D’Oro), Hong Kong’s latest racing sensation, continued his seemingly inexorable march to December and Group One glory with his tenth consecutive win in Sunday’s HK$4.5 million Gr.2 Jockey Club Mile (1600m). It was a win which came with such authority that even the prospect of stiffer international competition, in next month’s HK$25 million Gr.1 LONGINES Hong Kong Mile, may not be enough to end the winning streak of the Francis Lui-trained and Vincent Ho-ridden five-year-old. Golden Sixty, owned by Stanley Chan Ka Leung, recorded his 13th win from…
Furore leads Cruz one-two in Gr.2 Jockey Club Cup
A classy win by Furore (NZ) (Pierro) today proved his second-up success over Exultant (Teofilo) was no fluke as he did it again to lead home a one-two for trainer Tony Cruz in the HK$4.5 million Gr.2 Jockey Club Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin. Furore ended a 19-month winless streak last start, in the Gr.3 Sa Sa Ladies Purse Handicap (1800m), when he overhauled his five-time Group One winning stablemate and today he repeated the dose – once again as second favourite to Exultant. Today’s clash however, is the pair’s final for the calendar year and it served as a preview…
Aussie News – 23 November
By Adam Hamilton TRAINER Ryan Bell is looking for positives out of the news his emerging superstar Shockwave was banned from racing for three month after a bleed in last Friday night’s Group 1 Fremantle Cup. The three-month ban for bleeding from both nostrils ends his WA Pacing Cup dreams and beyond that, derails plans for a Hunter Cup and Miracle Mile raid early next year. Bell suspected something wasn’t right when Shockwave seemingly ran below his best despite finishing third to local megastar Chicago Bull in last Friday night’s…

Fergie joins 2000 club
by Jonny Turner It was hardly a nervous wait for Waikato reinsman Peter Ferguson when his 2000th driving win approached as Milliondollarmonkey coasted up the Oamaru straight to win on Saturday. Ferguson had time to decide how to celebrate the milestone victory when the Regan Todd trained trotter went to the line untested to win race 6 by more than two lengths. The reinsman eventually settled on a raise of his whip as he crossed to join just seven other drivers in the 2000-win club. The victory came more than…
Shezzacatch remains unbeaten with solid showing at Awapuni
Talented filly Shezzacatch (NZ) (Savabeel) demonstrated she is a filly on the rise when she made it two wins from two starts at Awapuni on Saturday. An upset winner of the Listed El Roca – Sir Colin Meads Trophy (1200m) on her home track on debut, the Savabeel three-year-old displayed some erratic tendencies during the race that day which nearly cost her the win. Trainers Guy Lowry and Grant Cullen were confident she had benefitted from that outing and would put that on display at her second start on the…
Bright future predicted for impressive Pukekohe winner
Promising galloper Edit (NZ) (Swiss Ace) provided further evidence of his racetrack talent when he dashed home for a decisive victory over 1200m at Pukekohe on Saturday. In the hands of runaway Jockeys’ premiership leader Danielle Johnson, the Swiss Ace gelding made it back-to-back victories after opening his winning account at Ellerslie earlier in the month. Johnson’s calculated risk to settle the Shaun and Emma Clotworthy-trained four-year-old off the pace on Saturday paid dividends as Edit unleashed a powerful sprint finish in the closing stages of the rating 65 contest…
